Colors White and Black: White and black are both excellent colors to use for protection. Some people associate black with negative magick. I don’t really agree with this. I see it this way: Black absorbs, white reflects. If there is a need to absorb negativity, I use black. To reflect it or repel it, I would use white. That is just my opinion. If you feel that black is a negative color, don’t use it. White is excellent for all purpose protection. It is also good for purification.

Red: Red is good for protection where defense is needed. It is associated with the element of fire, it is a very active color with a high vibrational frequency, this makes it excellent for protection spells.

Purple: I consider purple a good color for psychic protection, etc.

Blue: Blue is another excellent color for protection, especially spiritual protection

Amulets and Talismans

Amulets and Talismans can be worn at all times for personal protection. They do not have to be elaborate. Some people wear them visibly, others wear them under their clothes. I think it is best to wear them under the clothes. After all, it is for personal protection, not an accessory. Do whatever you think is best.

Amulets and Talismans should be cleansed and consecrated and empowered before use. This should be repeated periodically, at least every full moon, to remove any negativity they may have absorbed, and to re empower them. Depending on what it is made of, it can also be anointed with oils.

Here are a few ideas for protective talismans and amulets.

Protective Jewelry : This seems to be the most common form of Talisman. The pentacle and the ankh are excellent protection symbols and they also seem to be the easiest to find. They do not have to be made out of expensive stones or metals.

amulet bag: You can make a little bag out of a natural fiber cloth(linen, cotton, etc.) Fill it with protective herbs. You can also add stones, amethyst is good for this. Replace the herbs once a month.

a piece of wood from a tree with protective qualities can be used as an amulet. Many trees have protective qualities. Oak, cedar and pine are a few. Check a book for more correspondences. Whatever type you use, be sure and ask the tree’s permission before cutting any wood. you can do this by mentally asking permission of the tree. If you get a bad feeling, do not cut any wood from that particular tree. If you get a good feeling, it is usually okay. A small piece of wood is all you need, please do not cut any more than necessary. it is also wise to leave a gift as a thank you to the spirit of the tree. Some ginger sprinkled around the base of the tree is a good offering.

Cord: You can make a cord for personal protection by taking three cotton strings of a color corresponding to the type of protection you need and braiding them. You can use one white string, one red, and one black to represent the goddess if you want. Tie an odd number of knots in it.(3, 5, 7, or nine) visualizing the protection.

Some ways to carry Talismans and Amulets

This can be tricky sometimes, especially when you don’t want it visible.

Strung on a cotton cord: around you neck, around your waist, around your hip, strapped to your thigh or upper arm if you are wearing pants or a long sleeve shirt. If is something that cannot be strung on a cord, you can make a small cotton bag for it.

Carried: In a pocket, purse, wallet, etc.
